How Much Does Lobuche to Lukla Helicopter Cost?

Your knees just carried you to Everest Base Camp or Kala Patthar. Now, they want a word with you…
Lobuche sits at 4,940 m, and Lukla is 2 to 3 days of downhill walking away. So is a flight worth the money?
Well, this guide explains just that, along with the Lobuche to Lukla helicopter flight on our package at Namche Heli Service. Our team flies the Khumbu from Namche, so we know exactly where the fare goes. Here are the real numbers before you decide!
Lobuche to Lukla Helicopter Cost: Our Packages for 2026/27
We offer two ways to fly this route:
- A shared seat starts at USD 450 per person.
- A private charter starts at USD 1,500 for the full aircraft.
Both options cover the same flight! The helicopter leaves the Lobuche helipad and lands at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla after 15 to 25 minutes.
While many operators’ listings may show departures from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, keep in mind that Lobuche flights usually go between 6:30 and 10:30 AM, because valley winds and cloud build later in the day!
Remember: This is a transfer, not a sightseeing flight! You’ll be dropping from 4,940 m to 2,860 m in under half an hour.
Because of that, many trekkers book it as the closing leg of an Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return. You keep the climb and the acclimatization, and you skip only the long walk back through Pheriche, Namche Bazaar, and Phakding.
Shared Seat or Private Charter: When Does Each One Pay Off?
Is a private charter really the expensive choice? Only until you divide it by the number of passengers!
Two people on shared seats pay USD 900 in total. Three pay USD 1,350. From the fourth passenger, the USD 1,500 charter wins, because four people pay USD 375 each.
Here’s the thing, though. Thin air at 4,940 m limits what a helicopter can lift, so loads from Lobuche often run to only 2 or 3 passengers.
A group of four or five may therefore need more than one lift, and that changes the timing and the price! This is why we ask for every passenger’s weight during booking, and we confirm the final figure before you pay!
A shared seat still suits solo trekkers and couples. You join other trekkers flying the same way, so you pay for one seat only!
On the other hand, departure depends on enough passengers and on the weather, which leaves less room to choose your hour. You can pick the charter if you travel with family, carry climbing gear, or have a tight connection in Kathmandu.
Still, it will not control the weather, which is one important thing you need to keep in mind.
What Changes the Lobuche Helicopter Fare?
Four things move the final number, and most of them trace back to the altitude:
- Season and demand: March to May and October to December fill quickly, so book as soon as your trek dates are firm!
- Weight and baggage: We allow about 10 to 15 kg per passenger, depending on the helicopter. Extra weight can mean an added charge or separate transport, so pack in a soft duffel.
- Climbing gear: Ice axes, crampons and ropes count toward the load. List them when you book.
- Pick-up point: Each village has its own fare, flight profile and weight limit.
That last point matters if your plan changes. Gorak Shep sits higher, at about 5,164 m, so our Gorakhep to Kathmandu Helicopter and Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter flights follow their own pricing.
Pheriche sits lower, at about 4,371 m, which eases the weight limits. Our Phireche to Lukla Helicopter flight takes 15 to 20 minutes, and the Phireche to Kathmandu Helicopter route skips Lukla altogether.
However, you must walk to Pheriche from Lobuche first, which adds several hours. If you would rather skip Lukla from Lobuche itself, we also list a separate Lobuche to Kathmandu flight.
Flying Down or Walking Down: Is the Fare Worth It?
Walking looks free until you add it up. The descent takes 2 to 3 days, so lodge nights, meals and porter fees land on your bill. Tired knees and ankles collect their own price too!
Flying makes sense when time, fatigue or a connection matters more than the trail.
Walking makes sense when you have spare days, because the Sherpa villages look different at a slower pace.
Also, a flight adds weather risk, while walking does not. So keep one buffer day before any international flight!
One warning here: severe headache, confusion, breathlessness at rest, or loss of balance are emergencies. Descend and ask for medical help straight away, because a planned transfer is not a rescue.
After you land in Lukla, scheduled planes in spring and autumn often leave from Ramechhap (Manthali), which adds a road transfer of several hours. A Lukla to Kathmandu Helicopter flight skips that drive, so send both legs in one inquiry.
And if you want mountain views instead of a transfer, an Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour or an Everest Helicopter Tour suits you better!
Nuptse and nearby ridges usually hide Everest on the Lobuche route. For a short visit, a Kathmandu to Lukla and back to Kathmandu Helicopter round trip also works!
How to Book Your Lobuche to Lukla Flight?
All you have to do is message us on WhatsApp or use the inquiry form on our website. Send your date, group size, seat type, and each passenger’s name, nationality, passport number and weight.
A key thing to note is that you need to pay a 50% advance to confirm your booking, and you must clear the balance at least 24 hours before departure!
In case you need to cancel, it’s possible 7 or more days ahead, and you get 90% back! Cancel 3 to 6 days ahead and you get 50%!
If we cancel for safety, you choose a refund or a new date. However, our terms do not cover lodging or meals during weather delays. Also, check that your travel insurance covers a planned helicopter descent, because some insurers pay only for rescues.
Lastly, tell your guide and lodge owner your plan. Wear warm layers, gloves and a hat, since Lobuche is freezing before sunrise!
