How Much Does a Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter Cost?

The Gorakshep to Lukla helicopter cost starts at USD 600 per seat or USD 2,400 for a full private charter with us at Namche Heli Service.

The flight takes about 20 minutes and replaces a three-day walk down the valley after your Everest Base Camp Trek is over. However, the final price depends on a few details that many trekkers only learn at the last minute.

Well, this guide explains each one, so you can budget with confidence!

Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter Cost in 2026/27

Gorakshep sits at 5,164 metres, just below Everest Base Camp. Lukla sits at 2,860 metres.

Our helicopters cover that drop in roughly 15 to 25 minutes, and we offer two ways to pay!

Shared Seat: USD 600 Per Person

A shared seat suits solo trekkers and couples. We combine passengers heading the same way, so you pay for one seat instead of a whole aircraft.

Departure depends on filling the helicopter and on the weather. Through our website, we often provide a 10% discount, so check the latest rate when you inquire.

Private Charter: USD 2,400 Per Helicopter

Our helicopters seat up to five passengers. A group of five pays USD 480 each, but if your group is four, you’ll need to pay USD 600 each.

Therefore, groups of four or five should price the charter first. You also choose your own departure time between 6:30 am and 5 pm (checking weather window is still essential, though).

Other listings may show lower or higher figures, such as USD 450 to 650 per seat. So, always ask what a quote covers before you pay a deposit!

Is the Helicopter Worth the Price to Return to Lukla?

Walking from Gorakshep to Lukla takes about three days. You pay for lodging and meals along the way, and you risk missing your flight home if delays hit. The helicopter gives that time back to you!

For a group of four or five, the cost per person also stays reasonable. Because of this, many trekkers treat it as part of the trek budget instead of a luxury.

What Changes the Final Helicopter Price?

The listed rate is only the starting point. Several practical factors can move your total, so plan for them early.

  • Season: March to May and September to December bring the best weather and the highest demand. Seats fill fast, so book early.
  • Weather: Clear mornings give the smoothest flights. A delay can push you to a later slot or the next day, which means an extra lodge night at your own expense.
  • Fuel costs: Rates may shift slightly when fuel prices change.
  • Baggage: The weight limit is tight, around 10 to 15 kg per person. Heavy bags may need to travel separately!
  • Emergency flights: A medical evacuation is priced and arranged differently, usually through your insurer. Check that your policy covers helicopter rescue at altitude before you leave home.
  • Onward travel: Your Lukla to Kathmandu flight and any hotel night in between cost extra.

Flight Day: Route, Timing and Baggage

Our Gorakshep to Lukla helicopter flight usually leaves in the early morning, when winds are calm and visibility is best. Clouds often build in the valleys by midday, so later slots carry a higher risk of delay.

The route follows the Khumbu Glacier and passes Ama Dablam. On a clear day, you also see Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. Then the helicopter drops past Namche Bazaar and lands at Tenzing-Hillary Airport.

The fast descent has a health benefit too! Losing more than 2,000 metres in 20 minutes often eases altitude symptoms. As a result, the flight suits tired trekkers as well as anyone short on time.

But you need to make sure that you pack light. Note that a soft duffel bag loads more easily than a hard case, and wearing your heaviest jacket saves weight.

Booking Options With Namche Heli Service

Confirm your seat two to three days before you want to fly! Shared flights need enough passengers, so flexible dates help.

Lukla is not your only exit. Some trekkers skip the connection and book a direct Gorakhep to Kathmandu helicopter flight.

In busy months, fixed-wing flights from Lukla often use Ramechhap airport, followed by a long road transfer. A direct flight avoids that!

Meanwhile, trekkers who turn back early might even choose a Pheriche to Lukla helicopter or Pheriche to Kathmandu helicopter flight instead.

After landing, many travelers continue with a Lukla to Kathmandu helicopter transfer to protect their international flight. Others plan the whole trip with us, from a Kathmandu to Lukla to Kathmandu helicopter loop to a full Everest Base Camp trek with helicopter return package!

In that package, we arrange the Sagarmatha National Park permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee. We also recommend a guide and include one for your safety and support! A flight-only booking needs just your passport details.

If you cannot spare days for trekking, an Everest Base camp helicopter tour or Everest helicopter tour shows the same peaks in one morning. Finally, keep a spare day before your flight home, since weather can delay any mountain departure.

Why Our Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter Cost is the Best Value?

A low quote means little if the flight never happens or surprises appear later! Therefore, we built our pricing around clarity and reliability.

First, we publish our shared and private rates upfront. Second, we operate from Namche in the Everest region.

Our team at Namche Heli Service watches helipad and wind conditions directly instead of relying on forecasts from Kathmandu.

Third, you can reach us on WhatsApp around the clock, and we rebook the next available window when weather grounds a flight!

So, if you’ve just completed your Kala Patthar Hike and have returned to Gorakshep, or already made up a plan to climb to EBC on foot but return via helicopter, then you now know whom to call!
