The Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return offers a perfect blend of adventure and luxury in the heart of the Himalayas. This unique itinerary allows trekkers to experience the legendary EBC trail on foot, passing through iconic Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche, while enjoying panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other Himalayan giants.
Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the trek follows the classic route along the Dudh Koshi River, through rhododendron forests, suspension bridges, and high-altitude terrain. Trekkers gradually acclimatize as they ascend, culminating in the unforgettable visit to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and the breathtaking viewpoint of Kala Patthar (5,545 m), offering close-up views of Mount Everest.
What sets this package apart is the return journey by helicopter. After reaching EBC or Kala Patthar, instead of retracing your steps over several days, a chartered helicopter whisks you back to Kathmandu or Lukla in just under an hour. This not only saves time but also provides a bird’s-eye view of the spectacular Himalayan landscape.
Ideal for those seeking the full trekking experience without the extended return hike, the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is a popular option for adventurers short on time or wanting a more comfortable return. It combines physical challenge, cultural immersion, and luxury in one unforgettable journey.

We were transferred to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Domestic Airport this morning to catch our scheduled morning flight to Lukla. After 30 30-minute long adventurous flight above the breathtaking scenario of the Himalayas, we land on the Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla. Lukla is going to be the starting point of our trek. We meet our porters and other crew members and start trekking towards Phadking, which takes around three hours. We stay overnight at a local guesthouse.
We walk through the beautiful forest of pine today. And our walk leads us along the Dudhkoshi River bank through many suspension bridges. We will be crossing Hillary Suspension bridge which is one of the famous suspension bridges in that region. We will have enough opportunity to witness the wonderful views of Mount Thamserku (6618m) during the walk. Passing through the settlements of Benkar and Monjo, we eventually arrive at the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park. We still have a last village of Jorsale before reaching Namche.
Following the trail ascending through the forests and bridges and overlooking the beautiful views of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse, we continue our journey towards Namche. Namche is the gateway to Mount Everest and is also the main trading center of the region. We check into the guesthouse and stay there overnight lodge.
Today is going to be a rest day at Namche. But, as our Health Experts suggest, we need to stay active and moving during the rest days instead of being idle. Hence, we either take a day hike to Thame or visit Khunde for purpose of proper acclimatization. We can even stay at Namche and explore the Bazaar itself.
You can visit the Tourist Visitor Center near the Headquarter of Sagarmatha National Park where you can observe an assortment of things which are related to the First Everest Climbers and Sherpa Culture. We stay overnight at a lodge.
We continue trekking along the rushing glacial waters of DudhKoshi, which eventually brings us to Tyangboche. You can visit the local monastery and can also get the opportunity to observe the prayer ceremony either in the morning or evening. We stay overnight at a lodge.
From Tyangboche, we drop to Debuche and then cross another exciting suspension bridge on ImjaKhola. We the climb to Pangboche among thousands of Mani stones. Trekking further for about a couple of hours, we reach Dingboche. We stay overnight at a lodge.
We will spend another day of acclimatization at Dingboche. We make a short hike to Chhukung through ImjaKhola valley to remain active today. From ImjaKhola, you can witness the splendid views of surrounding mountains especially Lhotse. We then return back to Dingboche by the evening and stay overnight at a lodge.
We continue walking along the lateral moraine of Khumbu Glacier today and the pass by the stone memorials for the climbers who have perished during the expedition in summits nearby. And we continue to climb Lobuche. We stay overnight at a lodge.
Today is going to be another big and difficult day trek along the Khumbu Glacier and up to the Everest Base Camp. You can get the closest view of Mount Everest from Khumbu Glacier and EBC. After spending little time at EBC, we track back to Gorakshep, where we stay overnight lodge.
Actually, this day is going to be one of the most difficult yet rewarding treks. We make an early start to reach the best viewpoint of Kalapatthar. You can get the amazing mountain panorama from this viewpoint. After enjoying the amazing views from Kalapatthar.
Following breakfast, prepare for an exciting helicopter flight back to Kathmandu.
We are saying goodbye to Kathmandu as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! We will transfer you to the airport for your return flight.
The helicopter return significantly shortens the classic Everest Base Camp (EBC) journey, typically reducing a 10–12 day trip to approximately 9 to 11 days. By flying back from Gorak Shep (5,164 m) or Kala Patthar (5,545 m), you skip the grueling 3–4 day descent back to Lukla, which covers roughly 65 kilometers of repetitive downhill walking. This allows you to experience all the major highlights—including Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and the Khumbu Glacier—while saving time and reducing physical strain on your knees and joints.
For the 2026/2027 season, the cost generally ranges from USD 1,800 to USD 2,850 per person, depending on group size and service levels. Solo travelers can expect to pay around USD 2,140 to USD 2,200, while groups of 5–10 often receive discounted rates starting at USD 2,055 per person. These packages typically include trekking permits, accommodation, meals, a professional guide, and the one-way helicopter flight back to either Lukla or Kathmandu.
The optimal seasons are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). Spring offers vibrant rhododendron blooms and stable morning weather, while Autumn provides the clearest post-monsoon visibility and crisp mountain views. These windows are ideal for both trekking and reliable helicopter operations, as clear morning skies (6 AM to 10 AM) minimize the risk of weather-related flight cancellations, which are much more common during the Monsoon (June to August).
Most standard helicopter return packages depart from Gorak Shep (5,164 m), the final settlement before reaching Everest Base Camp. Some premium or private options may offer a pickup from Kala Patthar (5,545 m) following a sunrise viewing, though Gorak Shep is generally the more reliable landing site due to wind conditions. From here, the flight travels back to Lukla for refueling before continuing to Kathmandu, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Khumbu Icefall and peaks like Lhotse and Ama Dablam
While reaching Everest Base Camp still requires a challenging 7–8 day uphill trek with daily walks of 5–7 hours, the helicopter return makes the overall journey much more accessible for beginners, seniors, and families. By eliminating the fatiguing descent, it reduces the total physical demand and lessens exposure to prolonged high altitude. However, physical preparation like cardio and strength training for at least 8–12 weeks prior is still essential to handle the ascent and thin air.
Accommodation is primarily in teahouses—simple mountain lodges run by local families. These lodges offer basic twin rooms, shared bathrooms, and hearty meals such as dal bhat, noodles, soups, and tea. Overnight stops commonly include Lobuche and Gorak Shep, the final settlement before base camp. Facilities become more basic at higher altitudes, but the warm hospitality and stunning mountain surroundings make the experience memorable.
The helicopter return is one of the highlights of this package. Flights usually depart from Gorak Shep or nearby and provide breathtaking aerial views of glaciers, icefalls, and iconic Himalayan peaks. Passengers can see landmarks such as the Khumbu Glacier and the surrounding mountain range from above. Weather conditions must be favorable for safe flying, so occasional delays are possible. The flight is comfortable, efficient, and offers a once-in-a-lifetime perspective of the Everest region.
The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when weather conditions are stable and visibility is excellent. During these months, trekkers enjoy clear mountain views, comfortable temperatures, and reliable flight conditions. Spring also brings blooming rhododendrons, while autumn offers crisp air and stunning skies. Winter can be extremely cold, and the monsoon season brings clouds and rain, which may disrupt both trekking conditions and helicopter operations.
We decided to fly by helicopter from Namche Bazaar to Kathmandu. This avoided having to walk to Lukla and then having a long bumpy ride from Ramechhap airport back into Kathmandu. Also then we could get a flight from Kathmandu airport to Pokhara. All the arrangements were made by Easy Flight Travel. We were escorted up to the helipad and helped into the helicopter. I would definitely recommend Easy Flight Travel to anyone wanting to organise travel from Namche Bazaar
Raju from Easy Flight Travel is honest reliable and very friendly to deal with.
You can trust him to arrange a flight, recommend a hotel, or carry out safe honest mony change. What he agrees to will happen.
Highly recommended.
Raju was efficient and helpful in booking our helicopter from Namche Bazaar to Kathmandu and our flight onto Pokhara. He was there in the morning to escort us and to carry a pack up to the helicopter pad. The flight was delayed, but he waited with us and was in contact with the company, checking on when the flight would arrive.
