How much does a Heli ride to Everest Base Camp Cost?

Searching for the helicopter ride to Everest Base Camp cost usually gets you one number and a lot of silence. So here is the number first!
A shared seat costs USD 1,199 per person, and a private aircraft with up to 5 passengers costs USD 5,000. Your own quote can land above or below that.
The reasons are what most price lists skip, and we know them well because our team from Namche Heli Service fly out of Namche in the Khumbu itself.
Helicopter Ride to Everest Base Camp Cost: The Short Answer
Our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour lifts off from Kathmandu around 6:30 AM. It refuels in Lukla, follows the Khumbu past Namche and Tengboche, and returns near 10:30 AM.
Both fares cover hotel pick-up and drop-off in Kathmandu, ground handling, oxygen support, and a pilot trained for mountain flying. The route climbs from 1,400 m to over 3,800 m in about 2 hours. Drink plenty of water the day before, and skip alcohol that night!
Here is the part worth reading twice. Base Camp sits on a moving glacier. A landing therefore usually happens at Kala Patthar (5,545 m), where you spend 10 to 15 minutes on the ground.
Our tour page prices that version at USD 1,600 per person. If you only want the views, our Everest helicopter tour package works differently. We quote that flight by group size and landing option, not by a fixed fare!
Now for the extras. There are three separate fees to be paid: the Sagarmatha National Park fee (NPR 3,000), the local government fee (NPR 3,000), and airport tax (NPR 1,000). Together, they come to roughly USD 50 per person!
We arrange the paperwork, so you only send your passport details. Add breakfast at Everest View Hotel, tips, and travel insurance that covers helicopter flights up to 5,500 m. There’s usually a 10% discount on starting fares right now from our side at Namche Heli Service, so check the live price before you pay!
Where You Start and How You Reach the Mountain Changes the Fare
The price follows flight time and altitude more than the distance to Everest. That is why our Namche to Everest Base Camp flight starts at USD 550 per person. The full tour from Kathmandu starts at USD 1,199.
The Kathmandu tour runs 4 to 5 hours round trip. From Namche, you already stand in the Khumbu, so the helicopter flies for only about 25 minutes.
Trekkers take a third route! They walk up and pay only for the way down. Our Everest Base Camp trek with helicopter return package starts at USD 2,350 per person.
It includes the flight to Lukla, lodges, meals, and permits. It also includes a guide, which we recommend for the walk, and the helicopter flight home.
If you book the return alone, the pickup point sets the price. A Gorakhep to Kathmandu Helicopter flight starts at USD 1,050 shared, while Phireche to Kathmandu Helicopter starts at USD 900. Higher pickups cost more because thin air cuts lifting power!
Pilots often shuttle smaller loads down to a lower village first. Shorter hops cost far less. A Gorakshep to Lukla Helicopter flight starts at USD 600, and a Phireche to Lukla Helicopter flight starts at USD 350.
Walkers who finish in Lukla have another option. A Lukla to Kathmandu Helicopter flight starts at USD 500. In peak months it also skips the long road transfer from Ramechhap.
Travelers who want just one day in the Khumbu can choose a Kathmandu to Lukla to Kathmandu Helicopter round trip instead!
Private Charter, Shared Seat and Season: Where the Math Flips
Charters look expensive until you divide them. Five passengers on our USD 5,000 aircraft pay USD 1,000 each. That beats the USD 1,199 shared fare and saves the group USD 995!
On the other hand, four passengers tell a different story, because four shared seats cost USD 4,796. Sharing still wins by USD 204 there.
Couples fare worse on a charter, since two shared seats come to USD 2,398 against the full USD 5,000. A charter also gives you a flexible schedule, which matters when mountain weather changes your plans!
So who should pick what? Solo travelers and couples do better on a shared seat. Other trekkers fill the helicopter, and you pay for one seat instead of the aircraft. Shared flights run on regular departures, so you fit around the group rather than the other way round.
Families, photographers, and groups of 5 do better on a charter. You choose the departure time, and you fly with nobody else. Count your group honestly before you decide, because the charter saving only appears once the aircraft fills!
Timing nudges every figure. March to May and September to November fill first, so we suggest booking 2 to 3 weeks ahead in those months.
Moreover, fuel prices and weather move fares too, and monsoon cloud can close the Khumbu by 10 AM. Keep one buffer day in your plan. It lets you rebook the next morning instead of waiting for a free slot.
